Sequence of Scenes
  • Since the song takes a while to begin, the music video starts with Matthew playing Call of Duty on the Xbox (obviously a game about war and shooting other people) (close-mid shot). Grandad walks in and sees his grandson playing COD, which reminds him of his terrible experiences in the war he fought in (WW2). Suddenly angry, he sternly says to Matthew "what have I told you about playing war games?" before turning off the Xbox (still close-mid shot).
  • Grandad walks downstairs (close-mid shot) back into the living room. He picks up a picture of himself back when he was a soldier in the war. He then begins to lip sync the lyrics of the song.
  • Grandad puts down the picture of himself and notices a newspaper which he found on his journeys as a young soldier (close-mid shot). He looks at it (close-up shot of the newspaper) and it then cuts to the next scene.
  • The next scene is Jack (a younger version of Grandad when he was a soldier) crawling through harsh conditions whilst participating in war (mid shot, always in black and white when Jack is in the scene since it is a flashback). As he is crawling through the woods, a newspaper flies into his face (close-up shot, the same newspaper Grandad remembered in his house).
  • Jack reads out some of the headlines in disgust (close-up shot, many soldiers disagreed with the positive image constantly being portrayed in the media regarding war). Jack pulls a both angry and confused face at the headlines and kicks a tree in frustration before putting his newspaper back in his bag (mid shot).
  • As Verse 2 starts, it cuts to Grandad walking through the Holy Trinity Church (close-mid shot). Before Verse 2 begins, there is a small instrumental. At each beat, it cuts between a close-up shot of Jack and Grandad. It then cuts back to Jack walking walking nervously through the woods with his rifle (mid shot). He hears a gunshot and turns back to investigate it. He finds his brother (who he didn't know was in the same location as him, the brother obviously being Matthew although the audience don't know this since his head is facing downwards towards the ground). Jack cradles his brother in his arms, clearly in a sad state, and lip syncs some more of the song (close-mid shot). He then punches the ground to the same timing of an instrumental part of the song in a mixture of sadness and anger (close-mid or mid shot).
  • The instrumental part of the song commences for around 30 seconds, with cuts and a mixture of different shots of Matthew playing his Xbox, Jack cautiously moving through the woods with his rifle and Grandad looking at the Church and at the graves next to the Church.
  • As Verse 3 commences, we get a shot of Jack next to the dead corpse of his brother (Matthew) whilst lip syncing more of the song's lyrics. After mourning for a bit more, Jack gets up and salutes the dead corpse before it cuts to Grandad saluting the War Memorial (it keeps cutting back and forth from Grandad and Jack saluting (both mid-long shots).
  • As the final Verse begins (Verse 4), we see Grandad placing flowers next to a gravestone along with a picture of what is actually a picture of the brother who passed away when he was younger and dressed in his army gear (close-mid, close-up and/or mid shot). As Grandad does this, he lip syncs the final line of the song.
